Check out your brushes, you should have a variety of shapes and textures and you can bump up or down the size easily. Oh, you can make the shape you desire with the brush..make sure the shape is a diff. color than the background, then, use your magic wand tool to select within the shape and fill with a custom made gradient using the gradient tool.
